Nice to Meet You <3
We're Mike and Molly, GenX empty nesters who have been married for nearly 30 years. We met in high school (long before the TV show with that stole our names) and started dating after college. At this point, we've been together far longer that not. As our three adult kids are busy spreading their wings, we had a decision to make. Do we stay in the far west Chicago suburbs and watch new young families move in and enjoy the neighborhood that helped raise our kids, or do we have a new adventure?
Duh. Adventure, right? We threw around lots of possibilities first: go south, downsize significantly and travel, go west, go international and stay – how cool it was to have the freedom to think big. In the end, we chose to stay in the Midwest near our kids and go for wide open spaces and a little chunk of land – just enough for us, not too much to manage – a hilly 5+, tree-lined acres in south central Wisconsin. On Valentines Day 2025 we found our land and Five Trails was born. Curious how it got it's name? Stay tuned for the story.
Candidly, this is not the most fiscally responsibly choice two people in their mid-50's could make. Because of it, we'll both work more years than we planned, but we took a full year to think about whether it's worth it and landed on “yes”. You only live once and this is the way we're choosing to live out our lives together. We have big plans for Five Trails and plan to document every part of the jouney, with hopes of learning lots and simplifying the thousands of decisions that come with buying dirt and building a dream.
